Most people now know Dr Michael Salzhauer as the popular Dr Miami–a celebrity plastic surgeon with his own reality TV show and massive Snapchat following. But what was it like for him before he became the big thing? Read on to know more about the Dr Miami before and after journey.
Dr Miami Before and After: Education and Early Medical Career
Originally hailing from Rockland County, New York, Dr Salzhauer was born on April 16, 1972. At the tender age of four, he already knew he wanted to enter the medical field when his father gifted him a stethoscope.
That dream came into fruition when he graduated from medical college and moved to Miami Beach in 1996.
It was also during this time that he met Dr. Nick Masri, now a double board-certified plastic surgeon with two decades of plastic surgery experience. Both Dr. Salzhauer and Dr. Masri completed their general surgery residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center. They followed it up with plastic surgery training and residency at The University of Miami.
After serving residency for six years, Dr Salzhauer became an aesthetic surgery fellow at The Cleveland Clinic in Weston. He started his private practice in 2003 at Bal Harbor.
As for Dr. Masri, he obtained double board certification from The American Board of Surgery and The American Board of Plastic Surgery. He established his practice in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery through Face + Body Cosmetic Surgery. His specializations include facial rejuvenation, body contouring procedures, post-bariatric plastic surgery, reconstructive surgeries, and breast surgeries.
Dr. Masri also enjoys hospital privileges at various hospitals in Miami.
Dr Miami Before and After: Side Gigs
The amazing thing about Dr Miami was that his interest in plastic surgery extended even beyond the operating room.
In 2008, he wrote, “My Beautiful Mommy,” a controversial children’s book explaining plastic surgery to children.
He followed it up with a virtual plastic surgery iPhone app in 2009 called, “iSurgeon”. I-surgeon is designed to allow users to simulate plastic surgery by easily modifying face and body features on their phone including Rhinoplasty, Breast Augmentation, Brazilian Buttlifts and Tummy Tucks. And in 2017, Dr Salzhauer released “Flawless,” a song that reached number 24 on the Billboard dance singles chart and number 32 on the Billboard hot club dance chart. It features recording artist Adam Barta.
Dr Miami Before and After: Social Media Fame
Dr Miami may be popular in Snapchat, but he didn’t start there. Actually, he started sharing Dr Miami before and after photos of his clients on Instagram.
In less than three months, he grew his followers from 1,200 to 90,000. But it all flushed down the drain when Instagram deleted his account in 2015.
That’s when he created his Snapchat account and started live streaming his operations. At first, he only had 1,800 viewers, but it quickly grew to more than 100,000 viewers in a span of a month. His snaps reached millions within just a few months.
Before long, he already had his own reality TV show called “Dr. Miami.” He also won the “Patient’s Choice Award” in 2010 and came in second place as the Snapchatter of the Year in 2016.
